Sable.  A Yorkshire Terrier of any color can carry a special gene component (allele) that makes the dog a Sable even if you cannot “see” Sable coloring.  If the Sable allele is allowed to “express” itself, the dog will come in a range of coat colors varying from light gold to deep red with or without black/silver stranding as an adult.  As a puppy, Sables often have black or dark chocolate all over; they may also have a deep black or chocolate line down the midline of their back.  As a Sable ages, more and more gold/red comes in, replacing most or all of the black/chocolate.  If the dark colors are retained it is generally on the face (mask), ears and/or tail.  At Roman Empire Yorkies, most of our Sables are OCEAN PEARLS (the lightest versions of Sables which are often referred to as Golden Sables).
