Yorkshire Terrier History
Great Britian is known to have given us the “terriers.” Yorkshire Terrier with the County of York in Northern England. The Yorkshire Terrier roots are actually farther to the north of Northern England in Scotland. The Skye and Clydescale Terriers eventually were breeded and thus the names were identified as Yorkshire Terrier. The dogs became so popular in Yorkshire that they soon became known as Yorkshire Terriers. Years later, the Yorkshire Terrier made its way to America.

Smoky The War Dog
Smoky was a 4 pound Yorkshire Terrier that was discovered in a fox hole in a New Guinea jungle. Smoky accompanied an American GI on his combat flights over the Pacific Ocean. It is reported that Smoky flew on over 150 air raids. Most news media reports Smoky, the Yorkshire Terrier, as the first “Therapy Dog.” One report has Smoky entertaining folks in the hospital and even walking a tightrope with his eyes blindfolded.
